Book Design (& zines)

Book design is something I discovered I enjoyed during university. We experimented with typesetting, unconventional grids, and unusual printing techniques, and opened my eyes to the idea that a book can be both informative and a piece of art.

play, vol.2

PLAY BOOK, vol.2 is a collaborative book produced by 17 students in a special topics class lead by Tricia Treacy. Based on the theme, play, each student designed and produced a 16-page signature to be bound into a large collaborative art piece. The book was first printed in blue and silver on an offset press, then overprinted on a laser printer, and overprinted once more in various risograph colors.

Residuum

Residuum is a short story written for submission into the Climate Stories Showcase on AppState’s campus. Rather than simply writing the story, I decided to produce a few copies of the story in a bound, single-signature book format. Content was printed with an inkjet printer. Imagery on the cover and inside the book was either printed or overprinted with pink, cornflower, and plum risograph inks.
